A 501(c)(3) nonprofit built on the belief that a watched courtroom is a fairer courtroom.
Watch Takes Courage, Inc. is committed to the protection of the public interest, the marginalized, the falsely accused, and the rights of children subjected to court proceedings.
We believe that sunlight is the best disinfectant. By placing trained community observers in Georgia's courtrooms, we create accountability where it is most needed — not in the halls of power, but in the courtrooms where families are separated, people are imprisoned, and lives are irrevocably changed.
Our work is non-partisan and non-legal. We do not provide legal advice or representation. We observe, document, and advocate — and we do it with courage.
Every person who enters a courtroom deserves to be treated with dignity — regardless of their income, race, education, or status. We stand as witnesses to that principle.
Public courts should be publicly observed. We train community members to document what happens inside courtrooms and make that information available to the public.
Judges and attorneys who know they are being watched behave differently. Accountability begins with observation and ends with reform.
Watch Takes Courage focuses its resources where the stakes are highest and the power imbalance is greatest.
Children subjected to custody battles, dependency proceedings, and termination of parental rights cases — whose futures are decided by strangers in a matter of minutes.
Individuals facing criminal charges without adequate representation, navigating a system that is designed to process — not to protect — them.
Vulnerable adults in guardianship and conservatorship proceedings who are at risk of exploitation, isolation, and loss of fundamental rights.
Families facing eviction, foreclosure, or housing court — often without an attorney — against well-funded institutional adversaries.
Founded by advocates who had personally experienced the opacity and inequity of Georgia's court system, WTC began as a small coalition of courtroom observers in metro Atlanta.
Watch Takes Courage, Inc. received official 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, allowing us to grow our observer network and pursue grant funding for expanded court-watch programs.
We launched The Hive, our internal community platform, giving volunteers tools to coordinate observer assignments, share resources, and communicate in real time.
WTC expanded from a single-county operation to a statewide presence, with active observer chapters in Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Gwinnett, and Chatham counties.
We launched this digital accountability platform — giving the public the tools to rate judges and attorneys, log cases, volunteer, and access aggregated accountability reports for the first time.
Our leadership team brings together advocates, legal professionals, social workers, and community organizers united by a common purpose.
